DOWN TO EARTH ONLINE - ON ITS WAY
Since January 1998 we have been bringing you news, analysis and reports from our
Fortnightly magazine, Down To Earth. Dissemination of this information is a crucial
element of our mission here. However, we have limited the information available because of
resource and time constraints, usually only putting 4 or 5 articles from each issue online
and often truncating the longer articles to just a few pages. Now, we are posed to begin
providing our entire magazine plus unique interactive features over the Internet,
including full text of all articles, discussion forums, advanced search, full
archives and more. Stay tuned for more information. Right now we need your help to
Beta test the system, make suggestions, and provide feedback to us. We will give you
access to our demonstration version for a limited period so that you can help us improve
and refine the content, presentation, and features. We will be rewarding the first 50
testers who fill up the survey form at the end of the beta test with a 2-month free online
subscription for Down To Earth. If you are interested in
helping us out then visit the following link before June 5th and just sign up.

ORGANIC COTTON
Cotton, grown on a mere five per cent agricultural land accounts for 50 per cent of the
total pesticide consumption in India. Such large-scaleusage of pesticides is causing
extensive damage to our ecosystem. Organic cotton, grown without using synthetic
fertilisers, pesticides or defoliants, is the ecofriendly solution to this problem. For
