MEETING ON GLOBAL
ENVIRONMENT GOVERNANCE IN VISAKHAPATANAM
Global environment governance unit of CSE in collaboration with the Indian Network on
Ethics and Climate Change (INECC) and the Orissa Development Action Forum (ODAF) organised
its first regional consultative meeting on WSSD on March 22-23 to build networks on global
environmental politics. Participants who came from Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal,
Chattisgarh and Jharkhand found the global-local links fascinating and important. Further
meetings are scheduled in April 11 (Trichur, Kerala) and April 18-19 (Dehradun). Details

WORKSHOP ON GREEN RATING OF AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY
We organised a workshop with automobile industry on March 15 as a follow up of the Green
Rating of the automobile sector, which was completed in late 2001. A life-cycle analysis
of the sector was presented in the meeting. Participants - from major companies -agreed
that more interaction and learning was needed for the sector to push towards
sustainability. More at

NEW RELIGION
The saffron-clad sadhus and former dacoits now find a ritual for social restructuring and
acceptance: water harvesting. They are building "temples of water" instead of
temples of stone. Water harvesting has brought the new age Valmikis dignity and

GOBAR TIMES - Environment for beginners
Take twenty-two 12 to 14 year olds from schools in Jaipur to the ancient pink city; let
them investigate, write, click, draw and design - and you have a special edition of Gobar
Times! In a media and environment workshop for children jointly organised by our
environment education unit and INTACH - Jaipur Chapter, this bunch of eager young
investigative journalists share what they saw and learnt. The Chief Minister of
Rajasthan released this special edition of Gobar Times on March 30, during the
