bul_org.gif (962 bytes) AQI FOR 'SENSITIVE AREAS' (TUGHLAKABAD INSTITUTIONAL AREA AND SCHOOLS)

The maximum permissible limits prescribed for 'sensitive areas' is based on the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) that has been used to develop an Air Quality Index (AQI) for Tughlakabad and  Delhi schools.

Tughlakabad is considered as a sensitive area as the Batra Hospital and several academic institutions are located nearby. An AQI of 100 is equivalent to the NAAQS for 24 hours for 'Sensitive Area'. Similarly, Delhi schools have been considered 'Sensitive Areas' as they are usually situated in a Silence Zone.

For each pollutant, 50 represents half the value of the permissible limit for that pollutant (1/2 NAAQS). An AQI greater than 100 shows the concentration above NAAQS. Index values of 200, 300 and 300+ represent poor, very poor and critical air quality respectively.
