Environmental activist
If reading about the dismal state of our environment makes you angry,
then you should become an activist and fight for your right to a clean
environment. An environmental activist is someone who has the anger
and knowledge about environmental issues and is ready to bring about
change through campaigning, surveys and other awareness-creation activities.
Ideally, you should a degree in environment science or social work.
The jobs are primarily in the NGOs sector and individuals with prior
work experience are preferred. So if you are in college or school
and there is a budding environmental activist in you, get out there
and volunteer with an NGO and get on the green careers bandwagon.
Environmental
research
Are you are bewildered by why are there so many environmental problems?
Why is there no one to provide solutions? Do you love cracking theories
that rule our environment? Do you love reading and knowing about the
latest breakthrough in environmental solutions, technology and research?
Then there's a budding environmental scientist in you! An environmental
researcher would require at least a Master's degree in an environment-related
field. The areas of studies to become an environmental researcher
are diverse- ranging from pure sciences, such as biology, wildlife,
forestry, to the more diverse fields of environment engineering, environment
law, environment planning, environment architecture and environment
management.
What
are the eligibility criteria for pursuing an environmental career?

Undergraduate level - Most undergraduate courses in India
are conducted at the B.Sc (Bachelor of Science) level. Qualifications
for enrolling in such courses vary from college to college. But
it is compulsory for the applicant to have Physics, Chemistry,
Maths / Biology at the 10 + 2 level.

Graduate courses
- Most graduate courses are conducted at the M.Sc (Master of Science)
level. Again. although the pre-requisite qualification for enrolling
in such courses varies, it is compulsory for the applicant to
hold at least a B.Sc degree in any discipline from a recognised
university with usually a minimum of 50 per cent marks. In addition,
most courses require an entrance test.
Where can I find environmental
courses in India?
Current courses available at the university level are broadly in teh
areas of Environmental Sciences and Environmental Engineering. However,
several universities have started offering other environment-related

are the future prospects in the field of environment?

agencies, both private and government, hire environmental researchers
- Private
companies hire environment safety and protection executives

Job prospects
in India are limited for an environmental science graduate who is
seeking a very structured work specification - such as those available
in the established professions of engineering or management. But creative
persons with a keen sense of the market can definitely carve a niche
