Free workshop on rainwater
harvesting for builders, architects and engineers
CSEs natural resource management (NRM) unit is
organising a two-day free training programme on rainwater harvesting from August 13 - 14,
2002 for builders, architects and engineers as a part of its "peoples
management of water campaign". The campaign promotes community based water
management systems and urban rainwater harvesting through policy research, workshops,
training programmes and technical services.
The water crisis in Delhi has forced administrators,
professionals as well as citizens of Delhi to examine alternatives to address chronic
water shortages. New building by-laws demand water harvesting in structures having a
rooftop area exceeding 100 square meters. Rainwater harvesting has emerged as a practical
solution to mitigate the burgeoning water crisis.
As there are few trained agents who can propagate this
concept, the two-day training workshop will train and familiarise builders, architects and
engineers to plan, design, implement and monitor site-specific rainwater harvesting
systems.
Builders, architects and engineers, the backbone of
construction industry, can effectively propagate the message of conserving rainwater by
adopting rainwater harvesting in their own projects. Enlisting the cooperation of such
professionals increases the social acceptability of water conservation techniques and
helps in conserving a precious and fast depleting resource.
The two-day workshop will include classroom sessions, site
visits and practical demonstrations on functioning rainwater harvesting structures.
As only a limited number of seats are available, those
interested are requested to register latest by August 1, 2002. A detailed schedule will be
mailed after confirmation from participants.
