Forests / Trees

Q. I am looking for the reference of a  PIL in the Supreme Court on behalf of the north-eastern states, against logging. I think this was in 1998, and the  lawyer was someone whose name ends with Appai - a south  Indian I think, but am not sure. This lead was provided by  someone else.
A.
We have a copy of Supreme Court's ruling which had banned tree  felling in North-eastern states. This ruling was passed on 12th Dec   1996 by Justice J.S. Verma and B.N. Kirpal.   This case was in  response to a petition filed by T.N. Godavarman Thirumulkpad. A copy of this ruling can be sent to you by post. Please send us  your mailing address for the same.

You may also see this website www.supremecourtonline.com for  any other query related to this issue.

Q.Our organisation is involved in animal welfare. We are interested in planting trees along Delhi's roads (at the roadside, and along dividers) Is it possible to just dig a hole and plant trees (as Delhi govt is advertising) or permission is needed from the MCD etc. How should it be carried out. Could you give your comments or refer some agency which can help us.
A.
You are supposed to take the permission of MCD for planting trees along Delhi’s roads. You  may contact the appropriate zonal office of MCD and take their permission.

Q. I need an information about the govt policy/supreme court's order ....dt12th dec,1996. I need an expert/resource person/researcher on this subject preferably from CSE whom I can contactpersonally
A.
We have a copy of Supreme court's judgement dated 12th Dec 1996 (on   tree felling). A copy of this judgement is being sent to you. You may contact Richard Mahapatra at our centre for more information on issues related to forests.

Besides this  following people who are existing in our Experts database on forests might also be of help to you.
