Kyoto, 1997: The world agrees to the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) to combat global warming. But with large loopholes in procedure, hands-off regulations and no public scrutiny, the carbon reduction committments of industrialised countries are diluted, while only a few rich companies in developing nations stand to gain.
