Projects

Looking for something to do to involve kids in their environment?  Or perhaps you want to improve your skills as an environment educator.  These and other options for engaging children with the environment, by participating in any of the activities listed below.

Ecological Footprint Project

The Environment Education team, of the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), launched the Ecological Footprint Project which comprises a package of four eco-tours for Delhi schools

  • the Yamuna yuk-ride, ecofoot2.jpg (15576 bytes)
  • traditional water harvesting sites,
  • the Delhi ridge and
  • waste disposal in Delhi.

The aim of the project is to make students aware of their role as urban consumers and its impact upon their immediate environment, hinterland, and beyond.

The tours are preceded by an interactive session with the students, which brings out the student’s perception of the environment, and their notion of development and progress. This is followed by interactive discussions that draw many interesting responses.

It is often found that many students associate environment with just trees and wildlife, and their knowledge source was confined to the Discovery and National Geographic channels. Few associate environment with development, urbanisation and lifestyles.

Gobar Times and activity kits on the Yamuna and traditional water harvesting systems are distributed to the participants during the sessions.

Green Educators Network (GEN)

Who should get involved?joinnow.jpg (7452 bytes)
Anyone who is imparting environment education formally/informally and/or is interested in getting involved in the process of creating awareness on environmental issues can be a part of the GEN. There are currently 33 Delhi-based schools and 18 in other towns.  We have over 70 teachers participating

What does this network do?
The network is a forum to keep the Green Educators networked and in touch on a regular basis by publishing a bi-monthly newsletter. An email version will also be prepared and circulated for those who can be reached on the net. This will keep you informed about CSE's Environmental Education (EE) activities and highlight outstanding efforts by network members. Also any other relevant national/international EE news will be distributed. It will be a place to get ideas and ask questions related to implementation of EE across the country.

GEN is instrumental in involving you in the process of directing change towards sustainable development. You will have access to CSE as a resource centre and it will keep you informed about EE activities taking place elsewhere. You will also be updated on EE news.

Some of the resources that will be available to you when you are part of the network:

Joining will enable you to act as a catalyst to start a fission reaction, to generate energy and convert into concrete action directed towards change.

Memberships is free!  Just fill out the form!
