Rainwater Harvesting Potential
Catchment area – 1, 57,700 square metres (sq m)
Average annual rainfall in New Delhi – 577.8 millimetre (mm)
Total water available from rainfall – 2,32,500 cubic metre (cum) or 23,25,00,000 litres

Rainwater Harvesting System
The rooftop rainwater and surface runoff is harvested using recharge wells and recharge trenches. The surface runoff from a catchment area of 10.52 hectares is harvested using 7 recharge trenches provided with recharge shafts of 36 metre depth and 150 mm diameter. The catchment also includes internal roads.

Apart from the recharge trenches, the factory has three recharge wells which harvest rooftop rainwater. The recharge wells are provided with recharge borewells of 25 metre depth where the layers of boulders, pebbles and gravel filter the rainwater before it is recharged to the sub soil. Two recharge wells were designed by INTACH and pressure filters are used to discharge the collected rainwater to the sub soil.

The rainwater harvesting structure was completed in the year 2002 at a cost of Rs 15 lakhs.

Impact:
There has been an improvement in the water levels and the ground water quality.
