Q. Who
can contribute articles to Down To Earth?
A.
Any person with an in-depth knowledge on issues related to science
and environment can contribute to Down To Earth. More than news stories, we welcome
contributions for the science sections, grassroots, analysis, interview, reviews and
special reports. If you are contributing stories for the news section, we want you to go
beyond the stories that have already appeared in newspapers. We want you to write about
developments that have not yet been reported and chase reported stories only if they are
of nationwide importance.
But the most important thing is to get your story ideas
approved by us before you start working on any article. For this we need a short
description of about 100-200 words outlining what you want to write on.
This concept note should explain the following:
1. Your story idea
2. For which section of Down To Earth are you proposing the story idea?
3. What will be your story length?
4. Why is the story important to readers in India?
5. Has that story been reported earlier? If it has been reported anywhere, how
extensively has it been reported? Give precise details on the newspaper / magazine which
has reported it. If the story has been reported earlier, what new angle you will be giving
to it?
6. By when you can submit the story
All this will help us to decide whether we should
commission the story or notQ. Is
there any stylebook available for contributors?
A. Down To Earth website (www.downtoearth.org.in) has a writer's manual which explains the style and various
sections of the magazine.
Q. How
we can send our contributions?
A. You
can e-mail your contribution to editor@downtoearth.org.in or submit it at the
contributors page of www.downtoearth.org.in. You can also send it by post to
The Editor, Down To Earth, Society for Enviornmental Communications, 41, Tughlakabad
