The
Deccan Plateau constitutes
the whole of the south Indian tableland - the elevated
region lying east of the Western Ghats. The plateau occupies
large parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka and a portion
of Andhra Pradesh. In general, the elevation of the region
rises to over 1,000 metres (m) in the south while it barely
exceeds 500 m in the north. The rivers of the region have
for the greater part, reached their base level of erosion
and carved out wide valleys in various places. |
